I think I'm going to cancel my subscription to Self magazine. They keep writing these articles that make me mad. They wrote one last month about the Terry Schiavo issue that actually had me so annoyed that I wrote them a letter. Hopefully they won't print it, though. And then I was on their website and they have a caloric needs calculator. So I put in my info and it says that I need 1220 calories/day! That is *barely* over starvation level. If I were to lose three pounds, they actually recommend less than 1200/day, which is in starvation range. I checked a few other similar calculators on other sites and they recommend like 450 more calories/day than Self. Evil, evil magazine. What the heck are they trying to do to people?

That's truly dangerous that a major magazine would be saying that and it scares me. A whole lot. I wonder how many women get sick because of that. Do you know if that is supposed to be net calories? like eat 1670 and excercize off 450? I have trouble believing that they would do that... that's just scary.

that's the thing.. it doesn't say "in order to lose weight take in this". they put some disclaimer that this is an estimate and your caloric needs will vary depending on your muscle mass and activity level.. but still. it doesn't even warn anywhere that you should stay above a certain level. it's really irresponsible of them to do that. maybe I'll write another angry letter.

I want to write an angry letter too. And maybe instead of sending it to self, send it to some kind of national nutrition group.
